Family Cook & Home Help (Live-in)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and active mother’s help with a strong interest in cooking to join the team at the home of a family of five in Chelsea.
Working for a private family with children aged 7–13, the family need a meticulously organised, flexible and proactive person with a love of cooking, who can stay on top of the children’s hectic schedules and make sure they have everything they need for school and activities. Duties include assisting with homework, planning activities, school pick-ups and babysitting. The role includes travelling with the family during most of the school holidays, making it ideal for someone who enjoys new experiences.
Cooking duties include preparing dinner for the family (the children will sometimes eat separately), daily food shopping and menu planning. There is a well-equipped domestic kitchen, which you will be expected to keep clean and well organised at all times.
Childcare duties include collecting the children from school, helping with homework, and keeping the children and their belongings organised for the day/week ahead. You will also help ensure the children are well-mannered and pitch in around the house.
Our ideal candidate will have previous experience cooking in the private sector, with a “can do” attitude, and be easy-going, flexible and happy to muck in where needed. This is a lovely job, well suited to a university graduate (or above) looking to earn some money while building their CV and starting out on their cooking career. The family see themselves as a stepping stone to future possibilities and opportunities.
We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for food — reliable and creative, but equally happy cooking family favourites, comfort food and children’s meals. You should have good all-round kitchen skills, including baking, and be comfortable working in a domestic environment with children and pets.
The children
Aged 13, 10 and 8, they will be at school during the day. You will be needed for school pick-ups, homework help and occasional babysitting, plus other light household duties. Someone happy to play sports with the children after school or at weekends would be a bonus.
Schedule
This is a 7 days on, 7 days off role, with average working hours of 2pm–6pm.
Salary: £25,000
Accommodation
Free two-bedroom accommodation (separate, shared with a member of the team) in the heart of Chelsea, with all bills paid.
Other requirements
This role could suit someone currently studying, or hoping to study while working — there is plenty of downtime during the day and during your week off.
Interviews will include a cooking trial. This position is subject to a full DBS check and thorough referencing.
